Ain't I A Woman!

Presented by the WSU Diversity and Inclusive Programs

'"Ain't I a Woman!" celebrates the life and times of four powerful African American women: renowned novelist and anthropologist Zora Neale Hurston, ex-slave and fiery abolitionist Sojourner Truth, exuberant folk artist Clementine Hunter, and fervent civil rights worker Fannie Lou Hamer.'

Hurst Artist in Residence: Terrance Hayes

Presented by the WSU Lindquist College of Arts & Humanities

Terrance Hayes, National Award-Winning Author will make his only Utah visit on February 18, 2016 and read for his latest collection of works entitled, How To Be Drawn.

Terrance Hayes is the author of Lighthead, winner of the 2010 National Book Award and finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award. Hayes has received a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship, and was featured in The New York Times Magazine. As an undergrad student in South Carolina, Hayes was named Academic All-American basketball player while studying Painting and English. After receiving his MFA, Hayes has spent nearly 20 years teaching around the globe. He is currently a professor of English at the University of Pittsburg. Hayes will be sharing his craft with residents of Northern Utah as he reads excerpts from his latest collection of poetry, How to be Drawn. Following the reading, there will be a Q&A for Hayes to share his knowledge and advice with attendees.
